Printable word-path puzzles

Words do not always travel in straight lines. In Words Between the Lines, follow the supplied words through a letter grid, turning corners until every square belongs to a word. Plan your routes in pencil, then bring the finished paths to life with color.

How to play

  1. Start with the word list.

Find a possible route for a word, moving up, down, left, or right between neighboring squares. Paths may turn, but never go diagonally or skip a square.

  2. Make all the paths fit.

Use every square once across all the words. A route that works for one word can block another, so keep your early marks easy to change.

  3. Color your completed grid.

Use a different highlighter color for each path if you like. If you get stuck, the website offers a little help or a complete solution.

Before you begin

Is a word path the same as a word search?

No. Traditional word searches hide words in straight lines with extra letters around them. These word paths can bend, and the complete set of words must fill the grid without sharing squares.

What comes in each collection?

Each Words Between the Lines collection contains 120 puzzles across six themed sections, with grids ranging from 5 × 5 to 9 × 9. You receive a downloadable PDF for tablet annotation or personal printing, with online hints and solutions.

Can I change a route after highlighting it?

On a tablet, use your annotation app’s eraser or undo tools. On paper, plan with pencil before committing to highlighter. It is normal to try a path that needs changing when you work on another word.
